There's a reason the U.S. Postal Team held it's Spring Training Camps here.  With
over 300 days of sunny weather, the southern California wine country made famous in
the movie "Sideways" is an ideal place to put some miles on those winter legs.

If you are flying, the shuttle will meet you at the Santa Barbara airport. It's a quick
thirty minute drive from Santa Barbara to the Santa Ynez Valley, our home base for
the week. All our rides start from here, and since we are in the heart of
Solvang, you'll
be able to explore the shops and wineries in the town at your leisure.

We'll do the classic Solvang rides, including Figueroa Mountain, which rises nearly
4,500' feet above the north-eastern corner of the Santa Ynez Valley.  Lance
Armstrong used this climb as part of a 100 mile loop starting from Solvang. This is a
climb you will not forget, and you'll earn the dramatic views before the giant descent
back into town.

Towering 4,000' above Santa Barbara are the Santa Ynez Mountains. A dramatic road
runs along the crest of the ridge. The road is called Camino Cielo, which means "The
Road to the Sky." Need we say more?

We'll also ride through the pastoral roads of Happy Valley, including Foxen Canyon
Road and along the Coast as we wind up, down and around through wine country.
After the day's ride explore the Danish village of Solvang, sample the local fare, and
go wine tasting at the many local wineries.

The routes will alternate big climbing days with flatter routes along the coast and
valleys for recovery. You always have the option of doing a shorter route each day,
and the SAG van is always there to give you a lift if you need it.

"Solvang is in the middle of California about 15 miles from the coast. It is
like being in the middle of a Steinbeck novel. Huge valleys with lush
pastures and private vineyards. Rolling hills with long narrow two lane
roads. There is very little traffic and the people are generally friendly and
accommodating. The best part is that during the day the temperatures
reach the low to mid 70’s. In other words perfect riding conditions."
